Uttarakhand is currently on high alert due to severe weather conditions causing significant travel disruptions across the state. Recent heavy rainfall has led to multiple landslides along the Badrinath National Highway. This has affected key locations such as Lambagad, Nandprayag, Sonala, and Barrage Kunj. Additionally, the alternate route between Sakot and Nandprayag has also been impacted.
The Chamoli Police have issued a statement noting that the intense rainfall has resulted in landslides at various points along the Badrinath National Highway, causing frequent road blockages. They are currently redirecting travelers to safe locations to ensure their safety.
Earlier, road blockages were reported at Kameda (Gauchar), Nandprayag, and Chhinka, disrupting local traffic. However, the blockages at Chhinka and Kameda (Gauchar) have since been cleared and these routes are now open.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and District Magistrates to remain alert. And has also advised residents to avoid non-essential travel during this period of heavy rainfall.

Red Alert For Several Districts
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for several southern districts of Uttarakhand. Along with an orange alert for other regions. The IMD forecasts that a depression over northwest Uttar Pradesh will weaken into a low-pressure system within the next 12 hours.
This system, centered near Bareilly, is expected to bring scattered clouds and intense convection to southern Uttarakhand and parts of Uttar Pradesh. Other regions, including northern Uttarakhand, eastern Rajasthan, and northwest Madhya Pradesh, will experience moderate to intense convection with expected rainfall and gusty winds.
The IMD is monitoring the depression closely with radars in Delhi and Lucknow. The system, with wind speeds between 20 to 30 knots, is expected to weaken as it moves northeast.
In the Nainital district, ongoing rainfall has led to road closures, including the Haldwani-Sitarganj route, due to water overflow in the Shernala area. Travelers are advised to seek alternative routes and avoid travel until conditions improve.
